Happy 5th Anniversary: Reflecting on Five Years in Private Practice
5 Years of Growth & Gratitude
5 Years in Private Practice: A Reflection
As a Toronto therapist celebrating five years in private practice, I’ve learned valuable lessons about balancing emotional well-being and entrepreneurship. I’m filled with gratitude and excitement about the journey. This milestone isn’t just about me; it’s about the relationships built with you, my clients, and the continued growth we share together. So, let's take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and what the future holds!
From Pandemic Beginnings to Personal Triumphs
When I first opened the doors to my practice at the beginning of the pandemic, I had no idea what to expect. What was I thinking? There was uncertainty in the air, but there was also a deep belief in the power of therapy to heal, support, and transform lives. Melice Mitchell Psychotherapy (MMP) was born out of a simple yet powerful idea: therapy isn’t just for the mind, but for the heart too.
I started my career in mental health when it wasn’t the ‘thing to do,’ but I knew from the very beginning that the work I was doing was changing lives for the better. My goal has always been to empower individuals to become the most grounded and peaceful versions of themselves—and that goal continues to guide my practice every day.
Overcoming Challenges: The Entrepreneurial Balancing Act
Being both a therapist and an entrepreneur has its challenges. Balancing the authenticity of therapy with the demands of running a business has pushed me to grow in ways I never imagined. I’ve had to learn how to scale my practice while staying true to my values of integrity, compassion, and affordability.
But here’s what keeps me grounded: from day one, I made a promise to myself and to you to help, teach, challenge, and encourage. Whether you’re just beginning your therapy journey or you’re deep into it, my mission is to help you embrace and navigate it all.
What’s Exciting Right Now?
Right now, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation. Over the last year, I’ve focused on fine-tuning my website, streamlining my services, and curating a space for my community. The process of refining my niche and honing my skills has brought me even closer to the work I love—and to you, my clients.
And in case you’re wondering—yes, I said goodbye to working with my hospital team, stepping fully into the world of private practice. It was a bittersweet transition, but one that I am proud of. The flexibility, the ability to serve you one-on-one, and the deeper connection I can foster in this space has been incredibly rewarding.
Looking to the Future: Embracing Growth and Authenticity
As I look ahead, I think about how far I’ve come. I reflect on my younger self—standing up to my immigrant parents, telling them I was going to pursue a career in mental health. It wasn’t an easy path, but I’ve arrived at a place where I am truly grateful for the support of mentors, friends, and clients who’ve made this journey possible.
The future of my practice? It’s filled with even more growth, more connections, and more opportunities to help others along their path to healing. I’m also excited about some new projects on the horizon, and I can’t wait to share more with you in the coming months.
Through it all, my goal remains the same: stay true to my roots, honor my experiences, and continue to serve you in an authentic and compassionate way.
Gratitude for the Journey
As I write this blog, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the opportunity to do what I love every day. The saying is true: if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. And I love this work—every conversation, every breakthrough, every moment of connection.
A Special Thank You
As I celebrate this milestone, I want to take a moment to thank you. Whether you’ve been with MMP since day one or just discovered our community, your support has made everything possible. Here’s to many more years of wellbeing and collaboration.
